Streets & Lanes Festival 2019

On Easter Saturday the fourth annual Streets & Lanes Festivalwill see Toowoomba’s CBD come alive once again with live music, gourmet food, markets and childrens’ entertainment plus the Toowoomba Busking Festivalwhich was immensely popular in its inaugural year.

Continuing their sponsorship of the busking festival, Walton Stores will become a key precinct at Streets & Lanes Festival this year with live music, great food and markets all kicking off from 10am.  You can catch some of Toowoomba’s best local live music including Pepper Jane, Harrison Paroz, Nathan Joseph and country music icon Brendon Walmsley plus Toowoomba ex-pats such as Lucy Korts, Kent Tonscheck and The Beamish Brothers.

At 6pm the finals of Toowoomba Busking Festivalwill take place on the Walton Stores stage and the winner of the $2500 first prize will be chosen by experienced artists in their capacity as festival judges. The winner of the People’s Choice award will also be announced with the public having the opportunity to use tokens to vote for the buskers they love most throughout the day.

Applications to participate in the busking festival will not close until Wednesday April 17 so there is still time to get involved for a chance at big prizes and to perform to thousands of people on the day.

Toowoomba Busking Festivalis about filling the streets with music and creating opportunities for artists, especially locals, but for YWAM Toowoomba director Michael Bingham there is also a deeper reason for running the busking festival: “Artists have so much to offer a city and can even transform a place.  Music can change the atmosphere and bring joy, hope and life to those who hear it. What better time for that than Easter?”

Over at Civic Square from 10am to 3pm there will be plenty to do for kids & families including a free petting zoo, pony rides, jumping castle and craft activities plus Brisbane-based children’s entertainer Dan Warlow, dancers and more.

Art Gallery Park will once again be transformed into ‘Little Eat Street’ with gourmet food trucks from across the region and live entertainment all day.

Many of Toowoomba’s best local artists will also be donating their time to perform in venues throughout the CBD including Fitzy’s, Georg Banks, Bar Wunder, The Florence, Phat Burgers and 2ndShot Café.

Streets & Lanes Festival incorporating the Toowoomba Busking Festival will take place on Easter Saturday, April 20 throughout the Toowoomba CBD. Here is the full festival program…
